Hello to all:
Solaris 8 installed like a dream in a dual
boot with Win98. But I really want to get online with it. The NIC card I installed is a 3COM
3C905C-TX PCI 10/100 Base-T. Does not seem to
be any UNIX drivers on the CD that came with the
card. Sun does not reference to any drivers for this card, niether does 3COM seem to write Sol
drivers for it? Where did you folks find your drivers? What kind of NICs are you using to get
online? And then the BIG newbie question --Uhmmm,
like which partition/directory do you install
these drivers to? Many THANKS for all info you
provide!

P.S. If its easier, what about the same questions
for REDHAT 6.1(7.0)? -thats on my other box.

Typically, system files are stored in the /sbin directory or in the /boot dircetory if they are loaded on boot. Try searching Sun's support site. Ask yeti as as well, as I think he is playing around with Solaris now.

I always try to use NICs that will autodetect so I don't have to mess with installing them. With Linux that includes most PCI NICs (including the 3C905), but Solaris isn't very good with its hardware support. I took a look at the HCL for Solaris, and found a LinkSys fast ethernet NIC that's compatible (LNE100TX), and not too expensive ($17 at Egghead). I haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet. Check the HCL to make sure your NIC is supported.
