Question

Ok this has nothing to do with networks its simple A+ stuff which ain`t covered in A+
Cables I can make, but this cable is special, stereo jack on the unit and its suppossed to use a serial port, ok thats a new one for me.
I have d/l the progy for this unit and is a diabetic utility which gives you graphs and charts etc, and you can d/l the test results to your pc if you have the right cable, which I don`t.
I went to http://www.glucometerelitexl.com/data.htm as thats the unit I have but you need to buy the cable which is only availiable to US residents,
Anyways thats not the point I`m trying to make a cable, so I know there is at least two wires one ground and one sender, I just need to figure out which pin on the serial end does what, the progy can use any com port and even a modem port.
The unit is battery run so there goes my theory of needing power for it.
Anyone have any ideas? thanks for the help! Mike

Try it like a two wire printer connection. a simplex circuit. a transmit signal and a return (ground). If it's serial, you'll also need to know the baud and format and parity. good luck.
I ride an 82 FXR I bought brand new. everyday.

Thumbs up Thanks

Yeah thats what I was thinking a simple circuit like the printer circuit I will try that, it says that I can use com 1 to 4 (they call it the meter port) then the modem port 1 to 4 and I can preset the baud rate (default is 9600) so I just need to figure the parity, it is definatly serial (9 pin) it wouldn`t make sense to have it use a DB-25.
What has me wondering is that it is a simple stereo jack and this is confirmed, so this tells me at least 2 wires right? correct me if i`m wrong. If thats the case then I need to figure out which pin goes with which wire (I know where the ground goes, but where would the other go?)
Do you know of any resources on the net with schematics? I have schematics for RJ-45 stuff so something similar would be great, I have the picture of it in my head...just trying to put it on paper so I know what i`m doing.
An 82 FXR? cool I have a 98 FLSTC which I ride as often as possible, I`m actually working on it now and have the pipes off of it, doing some routine maintenance (bolts rusting off pipe clamps)
Would love to have an onboard puter (duct tape a laptop on the tank)
Well thanks for the tips it is greatly appreciated for sure! Ride safe~ Mike
