I just got my A+ certification. I want to get into the IT industry, but although my original idea was to pursue the MCSE, I'm not sure of the wisod of that. I will be doing all home study and using home network for practice.

Any suggestions on the value of cisco certs/tracks, mcse, or anything else would be greatly appreciated. I have no current field experience....so what is best to get in demand? thanks in advance

Very hard to say, but it also depend on your local area job offering.

Check your local area and find out. Otherwise, start from PC Tech, helpdesk support and work your way up. I suggest for MCSE since most company using MS product!

Here's a trick: look for a job before you pick your track! Just checking out the job web sites will give you a good idea of the opportunities and salaries in your area.

When you do choose your area, go both wide and deep. That is, if you decide to specialize on Novell, Microsoft, or Cisco track, you should also pick up some of the low-level certifications in other tracks (CompTIA, for example) just to show prospective employers that you're not a one-trick pony.

One other thing to note is that there are usually more jobs for Microsoft techs, but they pay less, and MS certifications disppear whenever MS upgrades its operating system. Novell training applies better to the whole industry, the techs get paid more, and you can keep the cert for much, much longer.
