I am a college graduate with a BS in Information Systems. I am currently looking for
a job. I have been away from the industry for two years(I played golf professionally
after college), what certifications should I start with to get companies to notice? A+
seems to be the starting place but does that pigeon hole me in the help desk side?
Please help. ( I am interested in applications development)

If you would prefer application development you may want to look into the i-Net+ certification of CIW certs. After all the web is here to stay. Of course, the MCSE certification can apply across many areas. I work with a VB developer that is MCSE, and though more LAN support pursue it, it seems to have helped him be a great developer.

if you are inclined towards application development then look at the MCSD option at microsoft site plus i would suggest SQL server (MCDBA) with VB .... this combination is a good horse to bet upon right now !!!! best of luck

The A+ would not help you much with regard to applications. It is more geared towards computer repair. Try the MCSD and MCDBA programs and start learning some programming languages, espcially Visual Basic, C++ and Java. The MCSE is more for network support people. That should get you started.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Maybe I am being a little too ambitious trying to jump right into development. I have some programming background(java, c++--educational based) My overall goal is to get into computer analysis and design. Any suggestions on a better starting point?
