I was just seeing what kind of post were on the board, and i noticed that many individuals have what i am now trying to achieve, ccna. I shot off an email to it-stud, he appears that he is cisco certified as well.
finished school recently, no certifications yet, wanna know what you know. Can't seem to break into the support/service side of things. Already in sales and getting tired of it, any thoughts???? indulge me, please. silky,,,,

CCNA seems a bit much to start off with, but I am trying for that one as well. Like you, I am in a related field (data processing) and am trying to get into the support area. The only real advice I can give is to keep studying and don't give up. Persistence (and maybe even hard-headedness) have got to pay off eventually.

Since you two are already in the IT arena it shouldn't be too much trouble to get a support job. I agree with what Randy said -- keep studying. Also, if setup a home network if you haven't already and play with that.

I advise against getting the CCNA as your first cert unless you are already knowledgable in that area. A+ is a good way to start because it gives you a good foundation. It amazes me how many "network administrators" I've seen who can't do basic PC troubleshooting. Network+ would also be a good cert to get if you are new to networking. It provides an overview of networking which helped me decide to get into the WAN side of things.

I agree. Unless you have lots of experience at networking, trying for the CCNA as a first cert is likely to put you off. Compared to most other tests, it is a real challenge! Generally the best track seems to be A+, Network+, and then branching out into the Cisco, MS, or Novell certs, depending on the direction you want to go in.

A stronge Network background is the basic rule to pass CCNA. I think, CCNA is not build for newbie(to the IT world).

CCNA is not easy. Just look at any reference books.

I didn't mean to be discouraging, mate. It took me three tries, but I got mine! At any rate, I have to admit that although the hardest cert that I have ever taken, it was als0o the most interesting. Best wishes!

Randy,

Well done on the CCNA, it is hard. I know that too.

U shall share your experience with the CompTIA forum, so new candidate know what CCNA is.
