Hello everybody
I am new to unix.linux and want to get started. Has anyone got any advice for me?
Please, I need some encouragement from you guys'coz this linux biz seems pretty tough to me.
I really want to get into ALL things linux/unix ...help me!!

If I were you I'd go with Mandrake. The instalation isn't much more complicated then Windows, and most of the basic configuration can be done with GUI programs. There aren't many books out on Mandrake, so if you want one you may have better luck looking at RedHat books (Mandrake's basically an improved version of RedHat).
Good luck. The *nix world is a lot different from Bill's.

Consider Corel Linux Second Edition.

It is completely designed for the newbie. If you have a fast/broadband connection it is about a 452MB download.
Corel Liunx is straight forward. Simple installations and very little configuration afterwards. I've worked with and installed several different Linux distributions (Mandrake 7.0,7.1 & 7.2, Slackware 7 & 7.1, Red Hat 7, Storm Linux, Caldera 2.4) on a variety of computers and Corel Linux has the best and quickest installation that I have experienced.
Corel Linux is meant for people making the transition from Windows to Linux so it will not have a lot of features other distributions might have, but it has enough to get you started.
If you want something more in-depth, look at Slackware Linux 7.1. It is not for the newbie.

I agree with Bobby in that Corel would one of the easiest to use, if not the easiest Linux distro. There a couple major downsides though which make me lean more towards Mandrake. Corel isn't nearly as functional as Mandrake if you want to do anything advanced. Also, I've experienced trouble dual booting Corel with other OSs. I'm not sure if the dual-booting problem has been cleared up in the 2nd edition.
Slackware is very popular with experienced Linux users. It's the fastest distro I've seen.
