Oracle is absolutely something that can be learned from the ground up. I have a friend who teaches privately and his students come from working at Gas Stations to being Oracle DBA's. Don't get me wrong, it is a lot tougher then the Network Administration. With hardwork and God on your side anything can be accomplished.

Do you, or he, have any advice for beginning? Thanks in advance.
I'm coming at this from a different angle, but still as far away from DBA as those gas station people.

Another alternative to the ILTs are the Technology Based Training CDs co-developed by Oracle & NETg.
These are the complete Oracle courses on CD-ROM with simulations to both allow you to absorb the material at your own pace anywhere and to get a hands on feel of the product!
These were designed to replace or supplement the Instructor Led Training. Of course the Self Test products are excellent exam simulators as well since they use the actual test interface that the live exams do.
I have some of these materials that I do not require & would be willing to sell, email monkeymom10@hotmail.com if you are interested.
Best of luck to all!
