Cool

I am taking the 70-240 test Saturday, Nov 11, 2000 and wanted to share my experiences with the study material I used. At first, I was confused a little with Active Directory and its components; i.e: OUs, GPOs, etc. But after reading these materials, I must say that I am ready for this exam and feel confident in my knowledge of Windows 2000. It all makes sense now. Here is what I think the best way to prepare for the exam.
Do this in the following order:

1) Read MCSE Study System by Alan R. Carter, IDG Books, ISBN: 0764547011 (It took me around three weeks to complete)

2) Read MCSE Accelerated Windows 2000 Exam Notes by James Chellis, Sybex, ISBN: 0782127703 (This one took around one week to completely read)

3) Obtain a good practice exam and dedicate at least one hour a day for one to two weeks or whenever you consistently score high. ( I personally used Beach Front Direct, they have an excellent "MONEY BACK GUARANTEE").

4) Brush up on your skills on Windows 2000 by using the vast resources on the Web.

5) Optional: Obtain a good study guide and read thoroughly before taking the exam.

PS: You might want to INSTALL Windows 2000 on your local computer and USE IT! I have Windows 2000 Server at my house with AD installed on it!! I use it everyday!

No, I don't have the Resource kit yet. However, I plan on purchasing it later on. I find that the specific materials I chose helped me prepare for and be a lot more confident in taking the exam.

I'm putting in about 2-3 hours a day to study for the big test day Saturday.

When are you planning on taking the test?

Anybody?

I have pass all the Windows 2000 paper and alread get my MCSE at September. Though I sit the 4 core paper instead of the upgrade exams.

I had heard that the pass rate of the upgrade exams is less than 20%.

In my opinion, 6 weeks is not enough to prepare for the upgrade exams.

Tell me how you feel after the exams. Good luck

Joe

At the time I do my exams, MSPress are the only avaliable training guide. Some people say it is good, some say it is bad. I haven't look at other guide. But when I look at the New Rider design exams. guide, they are too thick and I don't bother to buy it.

Also I have the Server resource kit & the professional resource kit. Plus the online seminar at Microsoft. Plus a 15 day course for Windows 2000 MCSE at non-CTEC training centre.

Anyone haven't got the Server resource kit yet, I highly recommend to do so. Since then, I haven't look for other reference for Windows 2000.

Question

I will take your advice on the resource kit and look into other MSPress material. Thanks for the tip Joe.

Gareth, Why are you waiting until July? Do you not feel comfortable taking 70-240?

Just curious.

My job don't need to upgrade to Win2k by now and I'm working on CCNA & Master CIW at this moment. That's why I'm not urgent to upgrade to take the exam.

I will write this exam probably in August or September next year. Mainly because I am in a 3rd world country at the moment and don't have access to the resources that I require to give me the best opportunity to pass this exam. However I should return hoome about May / June.

Take Care
