I went and got the mcse nt4 after spending about 20,000 bucks here south africa hoping it would open doors. Now let me say I am not a paper mcse at all I know my way round and can build up a network from nothing. And yet you cant get a job here with it.There are just to many mcses and salaries have dropped for me to work as mcse I would drop money.I have 4 other certifications. Now I must upgrade MS got this sucker once not again.
Can any one tell me whats the mcse like in your part of the world. Is there great demand for MCSEs there? What are the salaries like there.

MSCE's are viewed with a slight hand of skepticism here in Southern California because too many have "cheated" their way in by memorizing brain dumps and when placed in a live production environment don't know the answers. An MCSE with no practical experience will only start around $35,000. However an MCSE with a few years of experience behind them (along with a good reference or two) can start closer to $55,000 or $60,000. I'm an MCP with almost 4 years of experience in the computer room and as a tech support analyst I'm in the mid-$50's.

Remember when comparing salaries to take into account of cost of living expense. $35k is Southern Cal buys more stuff than it does in Boston. So it is all relative. Many job sites have cost of living converters where you can see what your comparable worth is in other cities.

In the northwest its all about experience. MCSE with a few years of actuall experience can realistically get 35k-50k per year (I know its a big spread).
But.... there are always those lucky souls who catch a break.
