Hi All,
I have a few questions. Number one, I am considering whether to pursue the +I since the NT 4 exams have been extended a bit, or just bag it do CCNA and then hit Win2K.
Several people have said that even though the +I designation is retiring, it would be good to have it. Any experienced people on here or not have any feelings on that?
Also, when I pursue the Win2K, is going for the accelerated exam a good choice or really too much of a bear. I have the Sybex Accelerated Windows 2000 study guide. Is that supposed to be any good for the accelerated or are there better books like perhaps Carter was for NT4?
I assume the people on here have pretty much decided to go with the 2K exams separately?
Anyway, my original plan was to hit the Cisco stuff first then come back and start tackling Win2K, and then they went ahead and extended on us and threw a new mix in the bag.
Any feedback you all can supply would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Very interesting and timely question.
I usually recommend against the +I. I myself am one exam away, but since it is retired, to heck with it
I would go for the CCNA which is always a great cert to have, and then go on to the Win2K MCSE so you take a little break from the MS World
I did not take the 240 accelerated exam because I saw too many people fail without knowing why. You don't even get a score: it is either pass or fail, so you do not know who far you were, nor which of the 4 sections were trouble
I took teh 210 and 215 so far, and am working towards the 217 as we speak.
Good luck to you and thanks for your post!

Hi freak,
Thanks for the quick response. Well, the break from MS would be a nice change, although I suspect that after studying for the CCNA, I might welcome a return to MS!
Seriously though, I didn't want to miss an opportunity to get the +I since there is a little extra time. However, the rewards might not justify the opportunity cost of working on that, rather than hitting Cisco.
Still, it would kinda distinguish you a bit to have the +I. Oh well. Yes, seems like the 240 exam will be a bear. By the way, I see that you have mentioned a few times about Exam Cram for the 2000 exams. Do you think that is adequate if I have not had much 2000 experience yet? Or would you suggest something like Carter's book or the Sybex stuff, along with of course playing with the product?
Thanks for your input on this topic. As you said, it is pretty timely.

Exam Cram is good as a second book, not as your main study book, and I would think that it is true for all of their books, not only the ones that deal with Win2K.
I always use the MOC since I am an MCT and I have to teach this stuff . EC is my second perspective.
I do like them though. I have about 12 of them for Win2K, CCNA, RHCE, etc...
I thought the Sybex books for Win2K were pretty bad.
Look into getting the resource kit. It is an icnredible 7000 pages

Hi freak,
Once again thanks for the advice. I almost always use the MOC at least the self-study versions, if I don't do in class stuff too. However, as I am sure you know. they are often very verbose and don't cover all that you need for the exams. I will also look into the Resource kit too. Sounds like it will be pricey but worth it.
By the way, also thinking about possibly getting into the teaching end at some point too. I think one of the best ways to retain and learn a heck of alot too, is to teach.
I notice that they are making some changes to the MCT program. Are they dropping the requirement that you need to be certified in each course you teach, in favor of continuing education credits or something like that?
I think that I might need to get some more experience in the field before attempting to do any teaching, but might be a nice thing to do.
Well, I also consider the Exam Cram a secondary resource, but some people on here seem to be touting as almost a primary, so I was just wondering since I don't have any feel for the new books out here for Win2K.
As before, thanks for the tips. I guess that I will toss around the +I thing a bit more, but probably lean in your direction about it's retirement. Thanks Again. A very Merry Christmas to you! etc.
