I am having problems with this error message I get Page cannot be displayed in Internet Explorer. When system dials up to the internet it establishes a connection, & then, it generates an error message on IE Page cannot be display in the browser. Tried just typing in anothers sites no luck same message. Tried reinstalling dun,the same message still occurred. Next I tried running winipcfg and releasing and renewing all protocols still nothing. Is this caused by a file corruption if so, What file? And what is a fix for this problem?

Please help

Okay, I actually had this problem recently.
Are you using DSL? If so, it could be a DSLAM problem or a RADIUS server problem on your ISP's end.

Can you type IP addresses and go to the sites? If so you are experiencing a DNS problem.

If neither of these work, try going to start and run and typing SFC into the dialogue box. Make sure you have your Windows 98 CD handy.

Also, try pinging yourself. And try to ping your ISP.

Try performing a tracert-n to see if you are having a routing problem.

If all else fails, try reinstalling TCP/IP.

Also - if you are using DSL from someone who resells Sympatico (many small companies do), see if they will lend you a Sympatico User name and password, and see if you can get on the net with that. When companies resell sympatico they generally buy these just in case problems like this arise.

My problem was that I could connect to the internet, but once I got there I couldn't go anywhere or do anything. No pages could be displayed. I knew from the beginning that it was a routing problem on my ISP's end, but they wouldn't listen to me, and actually laughed at me for making such a suggestion. They made me try everything I've listed for you here, but ultimately, I was right. I went through three weeks of hell to find out the problem was the routing at my ISP.

Also - I tried the borrowed Sympatico Username and Password, and guess what - until they fixed the problem things were fine with the Sympatico Username and Password. I could go anywhere on the net.

I hope this helps, but at least it gives you a few things to try so you can start ruling things out.
