Hey guys,
(I posted this in ccna forum first, but I thought that some of you might have some more input!)
I am working here in San Antonio at a Telco Company, and a few friends of mine and I are putting together a study group. So far we have several resources that we are sharing:
Sybex Book and Router simulator
Troytec Study guide
Cisco Press CCNA books (not exactly sure which ones yet.
Anyway, My goal when putting together this group is not only to get ready, and pass the test, but also encourage dailogue that would help in job interviews down the road. Obviously knowing your stuff is important, but I want to go beyond that and not only be able to know it, but communicate it effectively in an interview situation. Here is the background of who will be in the group:
Frame Relay and DSL Provisioners, a Loop acceptance Tech, and probably a couple of switch techs who do remote troubleshooting.
Basically we all know different areas of the technology covered, so I want it to be beneficial for everyone.
Here are 2 things I am planning on doing:
1. Having a briefing type format, where each person gets a topic, such as VLANS, Layer 3 of the OSI model, IGRP, etc, then researches it on their own for a week, then give each person 5-10 minutes to stand up and explain what the thing/technology does, and how it works, technically, and in English.
2. Have a board type format, where one person is in the hotseat for 5-10 minutes, and everyone else gets to ask questions, and basically kill the person, example: With what router command do you do X, or how does this work, or what does this subnet mask tell you about whatever.
I want any kind of feedback from anyone who has done this, or thinks this is a good or stupid idea, or can think of ways to improve what we are doing, or has suggestions on how to better organize a group to do this. Thanks as usual, this board is the best and I appreciate all the info that gets passed on here.
Rob
