I am not certified in anything yet, although I am studying for the i-net+, and plan to get CIW.
I was wondering what the laws are regarding the ownership of a "band name", for example, if I think of a really good band name, and want to get official ownership of it, is that possible? Could I sell that band name? I know its a crazy notion, but are there any U.S. laws that address this??

Of course there are. But you don't have ownership of a trademark unless it is registered. You can't register a trademark unless it is unique. You might want to have a professional search done if you don't know how to do this yourself. For more answers, you can visit the Website of the US Patent and Trademark Office.
