Hello all, I recently received my MCSE certification, and I was thinking about going for my MSCE+I. However, I recall hearing that the MCSE+I is going to be retired at the end of 2001. I have completed all of the NT tests, IIS4.0, networking essentials, and admin. sql7.0. I was thus considering taking the tcp/ip test, and then the IEAK and proxy server to round out the MSCE+i. I guess my question is - is it worth going taking tcp/ip if it will just expire in a year? Does anyone know if there are any tests that are going to take the place of these? Because once tcp/ip disappears, then the mcse+i disappears as well? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know, both TCP/IP and Networking Essentials are being incorporated into the core tests of Windows 2000 because they are such an integral part of the OS. If you'll notice, Microsoft is doing other radical things that will change the necessity of certain tests (combination of DNS & WINS, weening off NetBIOS, etc.). Because of that, Microsoft is currently phasing out the MCSE+I & MCP+I designation, and they might be replaced later on, but no words on that yet. I don't know about the rest of you, but if I was MCSE+I, and I was composing my resume on 1/1/02, I would clearly state MCSE+I - NT 4 Track. The way I see it, if you pay the money to get certified by Microsoft in NT 4, you will be a MCSE - NT 4 Track for the rest of your life, and you have the right to put MCSE on your resume in 2008, and long as you state that you are a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer in the Windows NT 4 family. I plan to become WinK certified next year, but there is no way that if I didn't get certified in time (i.e. I fail 70-240, and don't finish the 2K core by 12/31/01) I won't consider myself a MCSE - NT 4. So to answer your question, if you think you can do it, go for it! In my view, certifications don't get phased out, they become obsolete, and any semi-intelligent employer should recognize that. And hey, I think the Wright Brothers worked just as hard fine-tuning their planes as Stealth Fighter Engineers do today, so I will always respect their efforts.

Thanks MCSEWannabe, I probably will go for it then. I actually just realized I am only one test away from my MCDBA, so I think i will get that first
Thanks again.

If you're thinking about going for MCDBA & MCSE+I, then you don't need to take proxy, all you need is TCP/IP & SQL 7. Your 2 SQL tests are enough for the MCSE+I electives, and half the MCDBA core. Perhaps if would be better if you pass TCP/IP before the end of this year, and then take SQL early next year. I'm on the same track you are, I just need to pass TCP/IP & IIS4 by the end of this year. Good Luck!

I always recommend taking the TCP/IP test because of the importance of that protocol stack in all phases of Networking today. heck, even Novell is runniong natively at long last!
As for the +I, I am one exam away from getting it, but I am not going to bother... it does not bring anything new to the table...
