I have finally decided it is time to do something about my computer ignorance. I have a strong electronics background, 16 years military/civilian electronics tech/field engineer, but little computer knowledge. In my current job as an on-site tech, I usually spend a large portion of the day goofing off, so long as nothing is broke. I am looking for some suggestions for study guides so I can become A+ certified within the next 6 months. I am considering A+ for dummies, All in One A+ Certification. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

If u click on the A+ section on the left side of the webpage, there some good book recommend by this website and other bookstore.

I know that Micheal Meyer is good A+ book.

U shall try to get a BS on EE major? Are u still in the active or reserve? There are few MOS for computer training.

I would suggest Micaheal Meyers' book. As a study guide it can't be beat. David Groth also has some excellent study guides that helped me. Other book to take a lok at might include Mueller's "Upgrading and Repairing PC's" as well as Minasi's book with roughly the same title. The latter two are not specifically aimed at getting one certifiec but they address concerns that are covered on the test. ALso if possible, I suggest you try to find a used PC that you can practice surgery on. The books are great, but to really know how to fix a PC you have to get good at breaking them. Hands-on practice isn't only a big help, it's a lot of fun as well. Best of luck!
