Demote DC in a forest tree
When trying to Demote DC in a domain in forest/tree contains two domains, and it's the only DC in that domain, I have received the following error:
“DSA operation is unable to proceed because of a DNS lookup failure.”
in the event viewer:
--------------------------------------------
The local domain controller was unable to replicate changes to the following remote domain controller for the following directory partition.
Remote domain controller:
c88cedc0-0ab5-45a4-abff-d7448075d5da._msdcs.first-domain.local
Directory partition:
CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=
first-domain,DC=local
The local domain controller cannot complete demotion.
User Action
Investigate why replication between these two domain controllers cannot be performed. Then, try to demote this domain controller again.
Additonal Data
Error value:
8524 The DSA operation is unable to proceed because of a DNS lookup failure.
------------------------------------------------
After I Validated Trust relationship between the two domains, and trying to Demote DC.second-domain.local,the other error pops up:
------------------------------------
The local domain controller was unable to replicate changes to the following remote domain controller for the following directory partition.
Remote domain controller:
c88cedc0-0ab5-45a4-abff-d7448075d5da._msdcs. first-domain.local
Directory partition:
CN=Configuration,DC= first-domain,DC=local
The local domain controller cannot complete demotion.
User Action
Investigate why replication between these two domain controllers cannot be performed. Then, try to demote this domain controller again.
Additonal Data
Error value:
8438 The directory service is too busy to complete the replication operation at this time.
How can overcome this problem
Thanks

Use the following:
dcpromo /forceremoval
Fixes the problem where domain controllers may not demote gracefully when you use the Active Directory Installation Wizard (Dcpromo.exe) to force demotion if a required dependency or operation fails in Windows Server 2003 or in Windows 2000 Server.
