Video Card Issues
I'm installing a PCI video card in an old PC running wWin98. There is onboard video. There are niether jumpers to disable it on the mobo nor is there anything in the BIOS to turn it off.
I have done some research on this particular machine (Gateway G6-350) and have found many others have also tried in vain to disable the onboard video. It just ain't happening!
My problem is this, after installing this card, a Diamond Stealth III S540, following their Readme instructions, everytime I change resolution, the color goes wacko. It looks like 16bit color even though the settings say otherwise. The solution is to go to the "Color Correction" tab and click the default settings button. Only then does the screen revert to "high color" or whatever setting you have chosen.
I have uninstalled, reinstalled ,tried different PCI slots, tried to save a color profile, but nothing works. I intend to flash the mobo BIOS to see if that will help but I'm not optimistic. This card "should" be supported by this computer.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the link. But, there is no setting in the BIOS to change from AGP to PCI or anything else for that matter. There are on only 2 things you change: Palette Snoop, APG aperture size (64 or 256). There are no other settings.

The BIOS had the most recent flash, so that didn't resolve this issue. I finally gave up trying because it was taking more time than it was worth.
Thanks for the reply Spid.

That is happening because even though what you do, the on board video which is the default always takes in effect. Try to look at the mobo's manual or find it on the net to locate the jumper setting(s) for the on board for you to disable it. Mobos aren't the same and jumper settings for each mobo differs.
