Windows XP won´t start!!

As soon as I get to the log on screen and click the button to enter, the computer restarts.

I´ve tried Safe Mode and Last Good Known Configuration and nothing works.

I just can´t log in at all. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Does it start in safe mode?

Possible boot sector virus? Try booting from a startup disk or your CD into safe mode, then run a virus scan.

fix mbr should be a last resort.

Boot to your XP CD and go through a regular install. It will say something like "Searching for previous versions of Windows"

At that point it will find your current install and it will give you an option to repair the installation.

bingo.

the hard drive might have bad sectors on it.

After you can log on, run a disk scan.

Hope that helps.
