Boy kinda quiet in these forums lately huh? a couple 3 years ago these pages were hopping. Does that mean less people are going for certs now so less competition out there for the future, or... or..what?

Exam change.. not easy.. cost money...

Also, support job reach the limited.

We need Network Engineer, Programmer, Developer and Hardware Engineer... not that much of Tech support.

Remember... stupid outsourcing kill a lot of jobs...

I guess what I was after with this post was that what are the few people that actually do vist these forums currently and maybe in the past as I have mentioned, are up to? What is going on with your carreers, are you even working, with your certs, are you taking classes or just self study, what are you going for now and what have you decided not to persue any more?

Myself, I'm currenty working as a HelpDesk Analyst for a large nation wide health insurance company. So what I do is password resets on mainframe sessions and open various technical tickets for different tech groups, ie Desktop which is what I was doing 6 months ago but got laid off. So yeah I'm over qualified for this position but I had to get working, unemployment only lasts so long.

Well I'm short on time right now so I need to sum up a bit.

Gave up on Netware, most are or soon will be. (wasted a lot of time here)

Taking Server 2k3 course towards MCSA.
(lots of catch up to do, NT.)

More details to come if anyone is interested in sharing, and not flaming.

I guess I'm just bored, IT aint what it used to be.

Things are getting better for me (salary wise). But I'm still not up to the $75K salary I had back in 2000. I live in TN, so that's a pretty good salary for this area.

The university where I work is hiring 2 managers, 1 systems analyst, 2 specialists, and 3 desktop support.

The local paper is advertising a lot more IT jobs now. Things in TN seem to be doing really well.

I wish that were the case everywhere.

I agree that things are better now. In MN there are more job postings then I have ever seen since I started in IT 3 years ago.

In my opinion, during the boom many people saw a way to make an excellent salary w/o relatively that much study, compared to other fields. With the dot com bomb and the thousands coming through schools almost daily trying to get the "easy money" IT lost its attractiveness. Which is a good thing for those of us still around. It all comes down to supply and demand. I remember saying a couple years ago that, I can't wait until a couple of years down the road, when IT gets the reputation as something to stay away from.

If you think about it, the same people became mortgage brokers the last couple of years for the very same reason. Wonder what will be the next big thing?

Just my opinion.

similar here in Maine. I am about $10K under what I used to make a couple of years ago, but there are many more jobs coming up. I am pumped where I am right now, so I am not looking into anything else. I am also very lucky that my current employer pays for all the classes and tests I want to take. I am taking the CISSP class coming up in January. This is all pre tax, or more to the point no tax, money. Can't beat that
