Please help me configure my Win2000 server as a router
Hi,
I've managed to obtain another (3rd) computer for my home network and I'm trying to set up the network but I'm having problems with passing Ip data through the middle computer in the chain. Now this is the first time I've done this so I'm probably missing something obvious, so hopefully someone can point this out to me.
I've configured the network as follows:
PC A is the domian controller and has one network card - IP address 192.168.0.1. PC A can ping 192.168.0.2 but not 192.168.0.3
PC B is a memeber server, has two network cards. Card 1 ip address 192.168.0.2 is connected to PC A. Card 2 ip address 192.168.0.3 is connected to PC C. PC B Can ping 192.168.0.2 but not 192.168.0.3
PC C is a 2000 workstation, has one network card ip addresss 192.168.0.14 and is connected to PC B Card 2. PC C is only able to ping its own Ip address and 192.168.0.3
All default gateways are set to 192.168.0.1 apart from PC C which is set to 192.168.0.3
All the computers in the network have manualy configured ip's, although DHCP is running on PC A as is DNS.
I have installed RRAS on PC B. Is there some extra configuration that I should do in order to enable PC B to route ip data?

Thanks for the reply
Cheers John, you got your summary just about spot on.
I've thought about trying to configure a static route to resolve the problem but I'm not quite sure how this is done. Should I configure a static route for each interface pointing to the other interface? Or do I create an internal route pointing towards the external address (192.168.0.1 and 14)?
One thing that does worry me when I go into the Routing Interfaces section of RRAS is that Local Area Connection2 (the second card on the router) status is "unreachable" and when I click on this and select the "unreachability reason" I get the message "the network device is not connected to the network"
Any ideas why that might be?
PS Sorry for posting in the wrong forum. I will try to get this moved.

Thanks I'll try that. What should the default gateway and subnet mask values be?
I would of thought that the subnet value for the static route address should be the same as the one used on the card (255.255.0.0) but if I try to use that it says that "the network mask entered is not valid. the destination address can not be more specfic than the network mask"

I'm not using a switch, which means that the config I'm trying to set up isn't really possible. I had wondered about that when I started on this particular configuration!
I will try and set up two subnets (the orginal configuration I tried - but I didn't know that I needed to configure the static routes then. Hopefully I will have more success this time and if not, I'll buy a switch! )
Talking of a lack of knowedge does anyone know a good resource on configuring routers?
Thanks again for the information
