 setup domain & workgroup for XP
I have an xp workstation that is part of a domain. I want to set it up so that it can have a workgroup with another xp machine that is not part of a domain. How can I have both domain and workgroup setup on an xp machine.
Help appreciated

You could change the workgroup name of the other XP machine to the same name as the DOMAIN the first XP machine is in. When you are done with it, change workgroup name back to its original name. If they are separated by a router, you may need to utilize a LMHOSTS file on both systems for Netbios name resolution.

What are you trying to accomplish?
Computers don't have to be part of the same workgroup to communicate.

Well I just wanted to share some files/drivers etc to get the 2nd XP pc up and running. Later I'll add it to the networked domain.
In the mean time here's what i did:
I just added it to the workgroup with the domain name as the 1st xp is on via a cross-over cable. Then went to "Run" and typed :
\\1st client xp\c$
1st xp client prompted with a user name and password, typed it in and got the share folder, well the c drive. Budda bing I'm in.
Objective met.

Changing the workgroup name didn't accomplish that (just so you know).
You can access a shared folder/drive on another computer as long as you provide a username and password that has permission to access the share. It has nothing to do with what workgroup (or domain) you're in.
Our company has six domains and about 20 workgroups. We have shared folders that all the computers can access.

Think I'll go back and try it without the workgroup.
Could you still create mapped shares without a workgroup?

Yes.
It all depends on your share permissions (and NTFS permissions) as to who can access the info.
