FreeBSD

Well I decide to give FreeBSD a try this weekend..

For the most part I was impressed. The install was simple and straightforward.
I was impressed.I did run into one issue with my hard drive but that was my fault ,stupid western digital.

Another issue I had is the fact is FreeBSD isn't the best at setting up and configuring all hardware. It took me a while to configure my Stealth II G460. I could have made it easier on myself though but of course I figured that out the hard way.

Once I got the ports system going for installing/unistalling packages that was nice and smooth. My thanks to Boulware to explaining that part.

Well this is just a brief synopsis of my expereince this weekend with FreeBSD.
I give it a B/B+.

I love the ports system, one of my favorite BSD features.

I like it so far as well. The trick is finding the ports for the apps you want.
How can one download a new port for say a program that isn't already one of the current ports on the computer?

I don't have anything specific in mind just wondering how to go about doing it.

The easiest way would be CVSup.

FreeBSD Documentation.

Well I got an Ftp server up and running.

ProFTPD

I installed it via ports then configured it with webmin. The first few times I tried to connect via wsftp and even remotely from the box itself via ssh I got connectiuon refused. I figured out though that there were 1 or 2 lines in inetd.conf that had to be uncommeted and tada!! We have an ftp server up and running on my home network.
