server/client setup

Hi,

I am new to networking and have questions concerning server and client
computer setup.

I was planning to make the following network setup: a server computer (high
speed) attached to three other client computers (old/slow speed).

I would have the server computer carry the most commonly used programs such
as microsoft word, excel, internet, etc...and that the client computers
would be able to run these programs through the server computer. Since the
server computer is high speed would the client computers run faster when
using such programs?

Also, is it possible to have a program installed just locally on a client
computer (client computer's hard drive) but have this program run faster by
using the cpu or other resources from the server it is attached to?

Thank -you

Jon

Re: server/client setup

The software will always run faster when installed on the local HD. In a
large network it's easier to manage the software on the server in one place
such as upgrades, patches, and licensing.
