Is the 2924XL-A with Enterprise IOS the same as 2924XL-EN?

**** Post for FREE via your newsreader at post.usenet.com ****

Can anyone tell me if there is any difference between the
Cisco 2924XL-A switch loaded with Enterprise IOS and the
2924XL-EN switch? Someone on Usenet once mentioned that the
2924XL-A can't do trunking and may have some other
limitation(s) that the 2924XL-EN doesn't. Is this true? Even
if the 2924XL-A is running Enterprise IOS? Please shed some
light on this for me.

Thanks!

-Ed

The "hardware" switch is the same, but when you purchase the -A model you do
not pay for the enterprice software, and you ar not allowed to use it.

In my experience, i have learnt that ports on 2924-XL-A cannot
be configured as a VTP trunk, you need a 2924-XL-EN or better.

I havent been silly enought to try and run enterprise software on
a standard edition switch. Does this work ??????

you can load enterprise ios on the a models. its not actually a silly thing to do. vlan trunking is disabled as the default setting but will work with an a router running en ios. im not sure as to the legalities of it but i would imagine its ok as long as you aquired en ios legitimatly. but who the heck does that? :P
