I need a good advice
I am trying to find out which direction to take in pursuing CISCO Network Engineer career. Five months ago I took CCNA exam it was 640-607 and failed it, now I am trying to retake it but I found out that it has been changed since my last try. Now it's called 640-801 and the other one is 640-811 which broke down into two exams. Before this happened I knew what to do, I mean 640-607 was straight forward, where you need to learn all the basics of networking: router setup, LAN, WAN and different protocols. Today I downloaded CISCO Press PDF file with 640-801 preparation guide and it seems to me that they are talking about more advanced stuff then in a previous version for the 640-607 exam. So I was wondering did CCNA exam become harder to take or it's the same but the exam format has been changed. And also what can you recommend me to do. I have no certification at this point of time and no related work experience, is it possible to get certified and then find a job or it's still a matter of experience rather then certification. If anyone had the same problem as I am having right now tell me how did you get out of it and what did you do. I would also appreciate if you reccomend me what material to use to prepare for the CCNA 640-801 or 640-811 exam. I appreciate everyone's effort in helping me.

Well first of all you're not alone, i started out taking a ccna class at an I.T training school, at the time, this was between may-july of 03, the course was paid by a grant, basically i started slacking off, and never really took advantage of the 607, BIG MISTAKE?, anyhow i dropped all things cisco and i.t, all through november, then started brushing up on net+ material around december, got back to studying for ccna again in december, and how convenient they happen to release a new ccna exam called 640-801, didn't really think much of it at the time, if anything i was glad they dropped IPX, not that it was hard, just thought there be less to deal with, So on I went, studied like a madman for a month and half and ended sitting for the 801 around the 15th of february. I ended up failing miserably, and that wasn't even the worst part about, the worst part was giving something you're best shot, and realising you don't even have a prayer, that was what i felt like taking the 801.
So i'm retaking the 801 this friday, this time around, i think i got a decent shot,
because i've surrounded myself with better resources, namely better practice questions! Before all i went with was the questions that came with the cd in lammle book, and test king exams i had gotten of kazaa, this time i'm using stuff from actualtests.com and how2pass.com in addition to the cisco press book and the aforementioned lammle book.
Good luck and study hard!
Amir

I appreciate npo3po for sharing your thoughts with us. It seems to me we are in the same boat. I wish you good luck on exam and by the way let me know how it was and what helped you more to pass it.

How can you decry smrkdown when you openly admit to cheating???
You can add hypocrisy to you resume.
Don't bring double-standards here, if you cheat go somewhere else but do not attack those who don’t cheat when you do.
Thanks smrkdown for taking a stand against the cheaters.
Ever wondered why you failed the exam in the first place npo3po? You pass it this time and you have failed again.
Thread closed, I’ve had enough of cheaters for one day.
