Cisco Press' books are good at covering all the details, but are prone to typos. The software that come with them is buggy and contains so errors in the test engine. Basically, good books on the whole, but so-so software.

I used Sybex's CCNA Fast Pass as a review after reading the Cisco Materials. To get ready for the labs, you should have some experience on the hardware. If you can't get to a lab, try http://www.free-labs.com.

Celtic Rover (http://www.celticrover.com/) has some excelent lab sim reviews as well.
