Angry email spoofing

It has recently come to my attention that my domain is being used to spoof email.
People are using email accounts based on my domain that aren't actually real accounts to send spam and the like. For example account@mydomain.com where "account" isn't an actual email account on my domain.
so what is happening is when an email is sent out like this and it reaches an unknown account it bounces back to my domain. I have a default account which receives email sent to acounts that don't actually exsit on my domain. This is resulting in increased bandwidth and email storage.

According to my informatio this seems to have started in mid January of this year.
Does anybody have advice on what actions I should take? What can I do to stop this?

I don't have control over the server as it is a web hosting account.

thank you.

This is a trick used by spammers to hide who they are. Trying to stop them once they start is like trying to stop the wind. Anti-spammers have been trying to find solutions to these problems for several years now. If you can shut off your catch all account that would help until the day comes that the spammers stop using your domain name.

In OE can't you right-click on a received email and go Properties > Details and find out what servers were used on the journey from sender to intended target and back to your mailbox?

i am curious as to how prez became vunerable to this.

is it simply from posting your e-mail addy on the web that opens you up to this attack? i am not familiar with e-mail spoofing other than it is used by people who dont wish to reveal the actual source of spam...

When it comes to spoofed email addresses there is not a lot you can do. I have all of my clients shut down any catch-all accounts and also look at their systems.
Are you hosting a mail server with your domain? If so make sure that forwarding is also shut down. Other then that there isnt a whole lot you can do unless you can trace them back and notify their ISP.
