I recently passed Foundations - my first cert ever!
The two books I used were:
CIW Foundations for Dummies
CIW Foundations Certification Bible
I was able to pass with an 87% by reading only these two books, and I didn't have a IT job or background. The books each come with practice tests on CD. I did all of them and they were very helpful because they were close to the real thing. I found the Networking Fundamentals to be the most difficult part to learn, so I spent most of my time with that the last two weeks before the exam.
Just study the material that you feel the most unsure about. Good Luck!

CIW Associate is not difficult to pass. Read the CIW Bible twice and read the question about Proxy cache and OSI model carefully.

I must have paid too much for my i-net+ to CIW-a rollover, CIW wanted $95 from me and thats what I paid the first of February.
