builtin local groups

"When a member server or a computer running Windows XP Professional joins a domain, Windows 2000 Server adds the Domain Users group to the local Users group. "

saying Windows 2000 server, does it mean the domain controller here? if so, well doesnt the domain controller already have added domain users group to local users group without need for a member server or xp to join?

hmmm i dont think so...

if that was the case then it would seem to me that joining a domain would be required and it is not to my knowledge.

a system running XP pro i think would desire the option to have more control over its operation by remaining in a workgroup instead.

Any member server or workstation that joins a domain has the domain admins added to the local admins group. This allows for domain admins to administer the workstations and member servers.

By default a standalone server or workstation that is not a member of a domain has the administrator account in the local admins group.
