Trouble getting remote boot to work.
Hi,
I'm currently working on my MCSE, and trying to get Remote Installation
Services to work using my home network. I have the server set up alright,
and it's been verified. I have made a remote installation boot disk. I've
tried 2 methods of booting from the network. I have a Compaq Deskpro that
supports PXE, but when it tries to connects, it states "DHCP MAC ADDRESS "
and displays some unknown address (although I didn't check the client NIC
MAC to see if it had that address). The second thing I did was use another
client machine and try to use the boot disk. It times out stating that it
didn't receive an IP from the DHCP Server. I'm behind a router / firewall
that was set up to be the DHCP. I tried disabling that and setting up DHCP
on teh Win2k server, to no avail. I can't find anything on the Microsoft
website or in the Win2K book on trouble shooting what to do if the remote
boot isn't working. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you are
responding to this post, please remove the caps and underscores from my
email address.
Thanks!
Rick

Re: Trouble getting remote boot to work.
I have not tried it a while. You may have to authorize the dhcp/ris server in
AD. The router DHCP definitely will not work. See the following link, and you
may want to post in a W2K deployment_setup newsgroup. --- Steve
