I segmented our network and i use windows2000 as the router, my problem is i already enabled routing and remote access but but both segment can't see each other, i can ping the gateway and the IP of the second NIC but i can't go through the network attached to the second NIC. I also enabled IP routing from the registry. what could be wrong. please help!

Segment A: 192.168.1.0/24 GW: 192.168.1.1
Segment B: 192.168.2.0/24 GW: 192.168.2.1

Win2K Router: NIC1: 192.168.1.1 NIC2: 192.168.2.1; RRAS configured.

Seems like you need to establish some fixed routes or enable RIP and add both interfaces.

i already established static routes but still unsuccessful. i'll try to configure rip.

I have yet to find a detailed step-by-step guide to configuring static routes on a WIN 200x Server. It just does not seem to work out the same way as a Cisco router. RIP should just kick right in for you, once you add both interfaces.

On the win2k machine thats acting as a router, do a cmd > route print and paste in the contents here if at all possible.

You say you enabled RRAS, but did you configure it for LAN routing?

With one router, it is not neccessary to create any static routes nor is it neccessary to use a routing protocol. The router will automatically create entries in its routing table for local routes. Routing protocols are neccessary only for routers to share their routes amongst each other.

What is the status of the server in RRAS?

Why did you enable it in the registry??
You only need to enable it through the RRAS wizard.

On your router, are the cables from each NIC plugged into the uplink port of separate hubs/switches?

Are you sure you configured it to be a router? If you went through the wizard, you could have accidentally chose to set it up as a RAS box or a VPN.

Setting up one W2K router is a very short and straightforward process. Check your cabling and make sure you configured it as a router. That's it.

Also, make sure the clients have the correct gateway address.

i change the value of the EnableIPRoute from 0 to 1. When i activate RRAS I choose configure as network router. from the win2k server itself i cn ping all Workstations on both segments.
