Was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on what the market is like, especially for someone thinking about becoming an MCT.

I have my MCSD, MCDBA and am working on upgrading to the new MCSD for ..NET. My experience up to this point has been in development as a consultant, but I have been thinking about getting into training; probably not full-time, but as a complement to development projects.

I had put my pursuit of the MCT on hold about 1.5 years ago when the market really went down. Are things any better these days? Are most of the MCT opportunities as an employee of a CTEC or are there contract gigs for MCT's as well?

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks...

Get your MCT prior to upgrading to MCSD for .NET! It will make life easier
for you next year!

Not sure what you mean by that. Can you clarify? What do mean by easier?

Any ideas on the market question? What were your reasons for pursuing MCT? I
imagine it's more than just for another cert since the MCT has to be
"maintained" right?

Your right, it is more than just a cert. It is becoming an addition to my
career along with development.

I take it you are already an MCSD since you posted in the MCSD group that
you will be taking the exam for free. Any current MCT/MCSD that upgrades to
MCSD for .NET will get a set of CEC's for next year's plan. We are not sure
what all the requirements will be, but it will help those app devs out
there. Therefore, if you have everything, but the TTT course, then get it
done.

Another thing, you might want to wait until after October 1st to apply for
the MCT. Someone else might be able to help clarify, but I understand that
my cash for enrollment was for this year, paid one month ago. Then I will
have to pay for next year very soon as well.

Correct... I first got my MCSD back in '97 when WOSA I & II were the cores
and I've felt like a hamster ever since <g>. Then I _finally_ took the Win2K
Server exam in February to complete my MCDBA. I had all the other exams
done, so I figured what the heck? I mainly do the certs to keep the skills
up. However, I think it's a good thing to have under your belt and gives
prospective employers/clients with a baseline to judge you by in addition to
past project experience.

CEC's are Continuing Educational Credits right? So what you're saying is
that if I was presently an MCT, and I subsequently upgraded my MCSD to .NET
that I'd get some CEC's for it? If so, how many and do have a link to this
info on MS's site?

Thanks for the tip on the October issue; I was aware of that and it always
struck me as strange.

The msdnnewsgroups.com is my alias email for my MSDN Universal subscription.
MS requires you to setup an alias with a fictitious address that they use to
monitor your posts in the newsgroups that they manage. The Universal
subscription guarantees a response from MS in managed newsgroups within
48hrs if no one else replies.

Good answer! I was curious to see if you knew what a CEC was. Correct, if
you get your MCT before upgrading your MCSD and do all of this prior to
September 30th, you will get an additional set of CECs for next year. They
are about to change the CEC requirements for next year, so how much value it
provides is still in the air and unknown.

The only way to know about this is via the private site. So being new to
the program, I'm not sure whether I should reveal that info. Maybe one of
the veterans will know whether to follow-up or not. In the meantime take my
word that it should be a lot.
