Got an email today indicating my CISSP cerytification is effective, so I've changed my profile to reflect its issuance. Took Microsoft's 71-297 beta exam today. Really liked its structure. Microsoft is getting its act together.

So, I'm shifting my focus and will start studying for the Security+ exam, with a plan to take it next Friday. Any CISSPer's out there taken this exam. If so, how does it compare?

Why do you need a Security+ if you already have a CISSP? Security+ is just an intro-level cert. The CISSP is much more high-level and is more highly regarded.

Getting a Security+ after a CISSP seems like it would just be reaffirming your knowledge of security subjects that the CISSP proves you already know. Am I incorrect in this assumption?

Notice what he does for a living in his signature line. Most schools require that you have a cert before you can teach it regardless of level. I would have written no certs at all if it was not for that rule.

Do you teach cert classes at the university level, via a college extension program, or through a technical training school?

I was noticed that a nearby community college offers A+ classes through their on-line learning program. This got me thinking that I could certainly author them courses for Network+ and Server+, but I'm not sure of the time commitment (grading exams, conducting live labs, answering questions, etc.).

What's teaching cert classes like for you? (He said, veering this thread's topic way off course...)

Actually high school and adult school. I hold a state teaching credential for those levels. Something I picked up on a lark and decided that I liked it when I had to take a break from jetting around the world for health reasons.

I thought about doing the college thing but I have to pick up a couple more teaching specific courses, degrees are not enough. If you are an adult you can spend a year with me of about $60 plus books. So my classes are always full.

As for me I love teaching, there is zero pressure which I needed at this point. There are only a few of us at that level in my area. I am the only instructor in my lab we have a T1 split across three rooms and about 90 systems. The other two labs are application labs to I can send my students on data searches prettly easily. Some of my systems are for internet only, some for software installation and troubleshooting, and some for hardware troubleshooting.
