Most recently, the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) and the Information Systems Forensic Association (ISFA) have announced that they will accept the Security+ certification as equivalent to one year of job experience in IT security, helping IT professionals meet requirements for security certifications offered by the two organizations. The only problem is that now newbies with Sec+ are going around touting themselves as security specialists/analysts. Hopefully not too many employers will get sucked in as I would like to think this certification will retain the credibility may gain.

just a note, not necessarily relevant but related.

one thing people studying, or seeking entry into IT always wondered is... how exactly do one fill up a one page resume if they do not have the work history...

tactics often involve putting irrelevant work experiences, or listing course works, or god forbid, change fonts and shrink margins... lots of people advice them to be resourceful... how?

the post by azimuth should be very helpful... not enough relevant experience in security but have general IT experience? how about... joining professional memberships, or usergroups...

http://www.isaca.org/chaplink.htm

"Membership is open to anyone interested in the Information Systems Field. You could be an experienced IT auditor, preparing to take the CISA exam, a Security professional, a programmer, or just have an avid interest in the Information Systems Audit and Control field. "
taken from the silicon valley chapter.
now this may be awfully lonely all by itself... how about we participate in some user group... like microsfot or cisco user groups

http://www.svlug.org/

http://www.ntea.net/

chances are, there is one similar near your area... participate in them... maybe you just might get the connection into the field from another member... atleast it is a way to network and it imo certainly look pretty cool when you need some filler or demonstrate interest to potential employers...

yaya... not relevant, but just felt inspired to put it down since most of the time I don't care ;/

You are having a good day then.

Actually I think it is good advice worth noting.
