Cool 640-861 Sybex 2nd edition

The Sybex CCDA 640-861 book is out now.
I know there has not been much to prep with
for the newer version, I checked with Sybex
today and the book has been published and is avaible. I do not know if the book vendors have them yet? I ordered my direct from Sybex. This exam is on my list of things to do, so I must get working

I'd be interested in knowing your opinion of the book after you get it in.

Thanks!

I just recieved my copy today, I will be leaving the country for a few days, when I get back I will dig in to the book. I have used many Sybex books before, they seem to to do a good job on there publications. I will also be using some older Cisco press
material I came across. I let you know if I feel the book covers the exam requirements well enough.

Sybex CCDA 640-861 2nd edition

The book does not go deeply enough in any of the new topics to be really useful.

1. You can get all the info required for IPv6 on the Cisco website.
a. Changes in headers
b. Addressing and aggrigation
c. Route aggrigation
d. IPv6 effects on protocos (RIP, EIGRP etc)
e. Effect on BGP
2. The book covers all of the SAFE topics covered by the new exam. Not real deep but quite broad.
3. It does not cover anywhere near enough of the AVVID IP Telephony, nor can I find the answers on the Cisco website. Check out busy-back and trounble shooting busy-back signals where ever you can find info. Also tie-lines etc.
4. Pack flow through the network at each layer.

The book is useful (it's the ONLY one available now!) BUT read the above topics on the Cisco Website.

I think Cisco is doing us and it's self a disservice by not publishing a full syllabus of examinable topics instead of the rubbish in the overview of the exam on their site.

Robertma:

I belive I have some documents you may be interested in. However, they are on my work PC (booksmarks) and I am at home and hitting the road tomorrow for almost two weeks. When I get back I'll post another response to this thread.

Thanks!
