Going through the Syngress Press Network+ book now. Saw an example of
Thicknet Bus segment with thinnet drop cables. Is this a real example? What
kind of link would be used at the junction?, an AUI? What about the nic
connection? Terminated BNC?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, just don't recall references to segment
hybrid cabling in other books.

Not a hybrid dood - that is how the computer is connected to the backbone -
there is an AUI connecter at each end of the drop cable. One end to the
10Base5 nic and the other at the Transceiver.

Sorry , just was understanding that drop cables were also the same as
backbone, till I saw the example. No one ever mentioned that thinnet drops
were used for thicknet backbones. I getting pretty fed up with the omissions
and wrong information that is contained in the Meyers materials. I'm going
to start recommending that his materials not be used for the growing amount
of errors, that I'm compiling. I can excuse omissions out of laziness, but
the growing amount of wrong information is inexcusable.

Hmm - I used Mikes 2nd edition AIO plus his CBTs and passed after 2 weeks
study. I found him an excellent person to understand and his methods very
enjoyable.

Thinnet cables are *not* used as drop cables for thicknet Ethernet. It's
a special type of cable that uses twisted pairs, called an AUI cable.

True enough Charles. Actually I have never had the experience of working
with thicknet so I used advice from an experienced admin I was working with.
Boy did he feel embarassed when I mentioned this ... lol
