I have been a measly L-2 tech working with both 2k and xp for a few years
and am looking at the MCSE (finally). I am planning on taking the tests over
about 6 months time (independent study). Which track would be more
advantagous?

I would say Win2K only because more companies are running it today, and
probably will for the forseeable future given the economic situation.

Ask you manager for advice - even if you have already made your
decision.
Hopefully when a more senior position becomes vacant, he will think of
his new protege.

Protege???
I've been with the company longer than my manager, she got the job because
she has a Bachelor's degree (and looks at the rest of us as a bit of a
threat). Not the best politics.

Actually, I believe the 70-210 is easier.

The 210 exam is much easier than the 270. BUT if you are in this for the
learning then do both. I learned more from studying for the 270 exam about
RIS, RIPrep and IIS. About 50% of my 270 exam was on IIS (still haven't
figured out why).

If you are in a rush to get your MCSE than do the 210 it will save you much
grief.

If you stick with doing only the 210 then study for both 210 and 215 and, if
feasible, take them back-to-back. There is a lot of overlap between the two
exams. Just make sure you know about RIS, unattended installs and IIS.

I took 210 and 215 back-to-back, then 2 weeks later took 270 and 1 week
later took 218. I thought 270 was the 2nd hardest MS exam I have taken, the
hardest being IE4 Admin. After taking 218 that is now the hardest I have
taken. Made even the old NT 4 in the Enterprise seem like a cakewalk.

the 210 was an "easy" exam as far as exams go. XP had more features, so some of the questions were more in detail.

Either way, you should do well if you study hard and have real world experience.
