Homeland Security Incident
I recently took a trip up to Central Texas with my partner to do some install work there. While I was there I got a all to head to a high-profile client in Dallas so I took a car to Dallas and later the next day had to get back to Houston, where I live. I went to Love Field and bought a one-way ticket to Bush airport. Because it was one-way, I was told that I had been selected for additional security screening. So the Homeland Security people started going through my bags and to my horror they pulled from my PC case a screwdriver, wire cutters, scissors and several other small tools that I carry. I tried to explain that I was a network technician, and had not been planning to fly, but had to at the last minute and that I had inadvertently forgot that these few items were in my bag. They detained me and interrogated me, made a few calls and after a long time finally let me go. It is a good thing I am a “White Anglo Saxon Protestant” otherwise they probably would have detained me indefinitely, without due process. It was a very scary experience and the whole time I was thinking that I might end up in jail just because I forgot that I had a few items in my carry on. Luckily there are flights every thirty minutes between Dallas and Houston. Now all the guys in the office are ragging me. Many of them are foreign born and are now extra cautious. If you make the last second arrangements be sure that you double check before you get to the station. The whole ordeal cost me several extra hours and a lot of embarrassment.

A similiar thing happened to me. I was moving from california to portland. I flew up to start the new job on a one way ticket. I had the max luggage, carry on & checked, including a ski bag. Yes, i was told to step aside to have the luggage searched(all of it). (The guy cut his hand on the metal edge of the skis) I then was pulled aside at the gate and searched again, including taking off the shoes, etc. They were very cheerfu; about it(you won the lottery, step over here, please). I had to fly back down to drive a car up, on a one way ticket. I flew with the absolute mimimum, but wasn't searched, don't know why.
I sympathise.

It happen, those people just don't have any idea what they were doing.
They can't find the terror, but they think their own people is linked to them.. so ..! u know the story.
I wonder many time that do they get the right people for the right job.
I see so many young college graduated need a job, but they can't get it. However a lot of stupid people get a job that pay well and do dump thing..
Life is not fair..anyway... so drink it up and drive on.
