CCNA novice requesting advice.
Hello all,
I am a newbie to the CCNA certification and I am looking to get
certified by the end of the year. I am a bit confused about where to
start with in terms of preparation. Two books look appealing, The CCNA
Virtual Training certification kit, and the CCNA study guide be Todd
Lammle. Also, since I do not have access to routers, I would need a
simulator too. Which would you suggest out of these, or would you have
any other suggestions?
Also, do they change the exam every now and then (like renumbering
them from 507 to 607..or something like that)?? And do I need to buy
the 2003 edition for the exam I take this year.. or would last years
work too?
Thanks a ton guys, I'd really appreciate some guidance in this regard.
Regards,
Sharath.

Re: CCNA novice requesting advice.
I'm just nearing the end of 1st year CCNA, sems 1 & 2. Doing it through
local technical college who registered us with Cisco. You get access to an
online curriculum and can download a router simulator for free. We use the
official Cisco Press "First Year Companion Guide" textbook, it comes with a
CDROM with sample tests etc., together with class notes and hands on
experience of hardware and software.

Re: CCNA novice requesting advice.
I am just getting into Semester 3 of the Cisco Networking Academy. Best book
I have seen and all people before me have recommended is The CCNA Study
Guide Written by Todd Kammle and published by Sybex. You can get a kit that
has the CCNA Virtual Labs witrh it also. These have been great learning
tool.

If your looking for a good router simulator out there then Boson
routerSIM is the one, It has everything you will need to practice for
the CCNA exam, you can create your own topologys you have a big
selection of devices from switches to router it's just like having a
lab exept it's virtual, you can
t actualy tuch the router BUT its not for free you cloud spend a
little money ($149.95)or you could just download the Demo version and
then download a crack for it and youll have the full ver for free...
If your looking for some reading material, Sybex's books are good,
then you have different other ones that prepare you specificaly for
the exam like "exam cram" or "exam notes" , after you have read enough
material and you think that you know enough you could try out some
virtual tests, the best one though its not made as an virtual applet
but it has the best exact Q&A that are on the real test is TESTKING,
its a simle pdf file, but I remember when I took the test, about 60%
of the questions that I got were on TESTKING, that isn't for free
either.
After all of this you will be ready to enter the exam, believe me the
CCNA is quite easy, you will not have a big problem with passing...
CCNP, CCIP are harder, but dont think about that now.
So good luck on your srudying, and good luck on the exam when you take
it....
