Hi all
I wonder if someone could explain to me, why on my system information, I
have IRQ's 16, 19, 22 and 23? In the books that I have read, they, show that
they range from 0-15.

They are called virtual IRQs and for the most part should be no problem, as
long as you have no device conflicts.

I waas just about to post the same question in a different group. Looking
at the Win2K PC's at college couldn't understand why the IRQ's went up to
19! Any more info or links where I can find out more about these virtual
IRQ's? BTW 2 tutors who teach A+ didn't know either.

I only found out about them by working at a computer hardware company. The
irqs above 15 are set by the motherboard BIOS we always thought it was
caused by a conflict or an issue with the BIOS but could never prove it.

Do new motherboards have more than sixteen (Fifteen plus one to cascade IRQ2
to IRQ9)
copper IRQ lines?

not!! busmastering has been around for quiet awhile. There are no "extra"
IRQs, those above 15 are a software IRQ.

Hi Vince,
It's a great question and one that I see alot. Those IRQ's that you see beyond
15 are actually just the pc lying and giving a different piece of hardware an
assigned IRQ number when it does not really need it, I am assuming the hardware
you have with these IRQ numbers outside the scope of 0-15 are perhaps hardware
in PCI slots.
