Need Advise for a Beginner
I don't have any certification and looking for some advise.
I'm a student with computer science major in Database option.
I know how to do some basic stuff such as JAVA , C++, Scheme and have personal experience with web designing .
I want to have some certifications but I don't know where to start. I want to focus on database but also want to some other field too.
I was thinking and oracle DBA and MCDBA .
What other would be good to have ? please give me some advise.

With your degree in DBA, and if your interests lie there, I'd go toward that route. If you want to "expand your horizons" as well, you may want to look at A+, Network+, and Server+ to give you some foundational PC, network, and server support knowledge, as I suspect any of these skills could be helpful for a DB Admin. Also getting the MCP certs in W2K and XP Professional would help you get a better idea of the client workstation configurations. Really these lower level certs would probably be foundational for any Oracle or MCDBA certs, and could help broaden your options for other IT jobs, in case you have trouble finding a DBA job right off.

I didn't know CS major got special area on database....! Something new..
very difficult question to ask... you need to define your own path. What you want to do? What is your goals? As you know the market is not that good. So very difficult to find a area that everyone want.
But if you get 3.5 GPA and up.. few internship or co-op. U will get a job.
