I need a way to cross-wire a PS2 keyboard jack so that the PC thinks there
is a keyboard plugged in. I can have the cable plugged in but it can't have
the keyboard connected. Does that make sense? Needs to work sort of like
the ghost replicator at blackbox.com but without the $$$$$.

Come on all you seasoned pros out there, I know you have tried this before.
Any help would be appreciated.

Buy a cheap KVM switch. Avocent has plenty of models to choose from.

There's no way to do this by "cross wiring" the jack.

Many BIOS' have a way to setup the machine so that it will work and boot
with no keybaord attached.

There are some dummy "keyboard simulators" that you can plug into the
keyboard jack also for this purpose. Try www.computergate.com or
www.cyberguys.com or www.compgeeks.com.

Finally, with keyboards available for under $10 and with used keyboards
available for $1 each or free from many sources (lots of them just go
into landfills), you can always take apart a keyboard and just remove
the circuitboard and use it without the actual keys / keyboard. It's
usually small (just 2-4 square inches) and will do the job just fine,
simply disconnect the connection to the actual keyswitch array. Be sure
to insulate it, since there will be exposed 5 volts. It's harmless to
you, but a short could damage the computer.
