I have a client that needs to connect a Toshiba Estudio 205 copier/printer
to a computer via parallel printer cable and have others on the network use
it to print in both DOS and Windows environments.

What will it entail to make these users print using a DOS program? I know
to how to share the printer in Windows. What happens in DOS? I dont see a
Toshiba DOS driver available on their site or on the CD that came with it.

When you are setting up the printer it should ask you in the add printer
wizard if you want to use this to print from dos based programs. Just say
yes. It will print just fine from those programs. I wouldn't worry about
it too much, I have never had a problem.
If the computer itself is using a dos operating system with command only and
thats it then usually you just type something like: copy (name of file)
lpt1 and it will print to the printer that you have mapped or connected to
lpt1.

As crazymiclo stated, on each workstation that you map the printer to, tell the
"wizard" that you want to print from DOS. Also, tell it to capture LPTx where x
is the port you want it to print. If your DOS-based program is set up for LPT1,
tell it to capture LPT1, since the DOS program will not understand to print to
the network path. The capture is basically like saying "LPT1 =
\\workstation-name\printer-name"

make that LPT1: (note the colon) you can also use the special file PRN.

The explanation that finally got me to understand this is: It's just like a
mapped drive letter. BTW you need to use LPT1: (note the colon) just like
you would with a drive letter.
