voip info required please
Hi guys,
so I've been made redundant as a Network Engineer but re-employed by the same company as a Voice Analyst for two days a week.
My project is to specify/install a group-wide VOIP network.
I know the basics and I've been reading about VOIP for a while, but can anyone point me at specific tutorials/books about VOIP?
Also, where can I learn more about Active Directory and LDAP? I've done a search on google and I find all sorts of stuff that doesn't give me the right information.
Any company web-sites I should look at?
Any company or kit that I should avoid?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Regards
Peter

Hi Peter,
I was wondering over the weekend how your getting on.
Cisco of course!!!
Seriously though, what's your existing infrasturucture?? I know you have Cisco routers, what voice kit do you have?? It's possible you could utilise what you already have.
Would it be worth you involving a reseller at an early stage ;-)
Drop me a PM if you want to get in touch.
Cheers,
Mat.

hi Guys,
well I knew when I specified the new BT WAN around 15 months ago that it'd put me out of work, the only surprise was that I got as long as I did out of the company.
Two days a week ain't brilliant but it pays some of the monthly bills and it gives me a chance to upgrade my skills to something relevant.
I've been a telephone engineer for 33 years so it's not a major step for me...
thecomeons) thanks for the links, I'd not seen or heard of either of these sites. I've added them to my favourites and I'll be studying them in detail after I finish here.
Mat P) I've got three apointments arranged with different companies over the next three weeks, each one specialises in a different major suppliers kit. There's room for another one at this stage...but more on that by PM!
What I think we'll be doing is engaging an outside specialist company to do the work with me acting as 'local' project support. That way I can learn from them as the project moves along and we'll get some movement pretty quickly.
If I tried to do it all for myself then I'd spend a month learning the basics before I could start installing anything.
But, as usual, it's all down to cost!
Thanks
Peter
