I am in the process of the MCSA. I am done with 210 and 215 and studying the 218 right now. My problem is what to take for the elective? I am not really looking to go on to MCSE. As I am now and basically want to be a network manager I don't want to get into design or major installs.

I have looked at the exchange which we use at work but we are on 5.5 and that test retires in June. Anyone now the difference between 5.5 and 2000? Or is there a better exam choice?

We are getting ready to do a walk out on our server and upgrade. We will be doing server 2000 at two site with cisco routers and dsl, terminal server and exchange 5.5. So any suggestions would be great.

I'd probally suggest you write the version of exchange you know. It doesn't matter if it retires after you have the certifiction because Microsoft said all you would need to get upgraded to MCSA 2003 was to write one upgrade exam. So if I were you I'd write whatever I was comfortable with. I read over the electives, and considering your place of work and how you have worked with exchange 5.5 and are planning to upgrade to 2000, either choice would make logical sence, If you wrote 5.5 you have experiance on it, and if you prepared for exchange 2000 you'll be prepared when they implement it at your workplace. You just need to weigh the pros and cons of both. If you are feeling pushed for time though, you might want to think about writing exchange 2000, it's not retiring any time soon and with working and trying to prepare for 218 and an exchange exam, you might miss your june deadline (for writing exch. 5.5). You could still go off in another direction totally though and write something which you could apply to your current position in your company (like security or new to you), It's always nice to attempt to do something you didn't know how to do before
