Laptop unable to boot up. I looked at Dell community forum. Most likely that replacing MB will resolve the problem, but the MB cost est $200 on ebay. It might not guarantee work. Many users report that only work for 6 months, then it stop again.

Shall I go for a new laptop or repair it?

I still need to order the kit to retrieve my data from HD.

Perfect laptop for the past three yrs, nothing wrong with it at all.

You dont really give much info on what its doing, are you sure it memory ? Why not take it into a Dell agent, and let them try a second hand memory module just to make sure.

You also mention getting a "Kit" to get ur data back, as a suggestion why not get an external usb housing (2.5") and put the drive in there, or a 2.5" to 3.5" conversion bracket, so you can attach it to a "normal" pc, both options should be cheaper than Memory if ur gonna replace the unit anyway.

Personally never liked Dell, but in SA the backup support sucks, but I believe in the US they are quite good.

Anyway, just some random thoughts :-)
