| My PC cant stop rebooting, I am running Win XP & as soon as it finish the POST it BLINKS with a blue screen & reboots. Please help. I dont want to format. | |

| Try flashing the BIOS and reseating the RAM.
If that doesn't work, you can use your XP CD and start an install. Once you choose to install, it will say something like "searching for current versions of Windows"
When it finds the current install of XP, it will give you the option of Repair current version.
Hope that helps. | |

| Ok. amazingly enough, I know this one. You probably have a corrupted program file. How do I know, I hear you ask. I have a beat up POS hp notebook with XP home on it. And it did that to me for the longest time. I think its caused by a netsky virus. nasty business | |
|
| Did you try starting in safe mode? | |

| I agree with Curious, I've had this same type ofproblem and it was bad memory. If you have two sticks, try it with only one (try both, one at a time). | |

| Its a corrupted file in your system files. Do you have more than one anti virus on your machine? I had that problem too. Some of the things I do is really stupid . Anyways, corrupted file, multiple anti-virus's, and I also found that the netsky virus was the cause of alot of my problems as well. | |

| I thought you said it reboots immediately after POST. If you can boot into safe mode, run a virus scan.
XP has a feature called System Restore. You can set your system files back to an earlier date. Try using System Restore.
To run System Restore in safe mode:
Access System Restore through Help and Support.
Follow the instructions on your screen.
If that doesn't work, you'll have to run a Repair using your XP CD (see earlier post).
Hope that helps. | |
|
| curiousgeorge, Sorry wat i meant was i cant even run it in Safe mode. | |
|
| Can you boot to dos? With an ERD (emergency repair disk) or with a bootable copy of windows 98? If you can you may be able to repair the damaged files or.....you could reformat. | |
|
| rjsal, Am sorry this will sound so foolish, how do i boot to DOS?? i've a start up disk 4win 98 but not the emergency repair disk not even now how to creat one. | |
|
| Are you sure you’ve ruled out all physical issues?.....I too have had some problems with bad memory malfunctions just like Curiousgeorge and Iseals (you can sometimes tell cause you’ll get the same error message; hex memory location on your BSOD) and if your sure its not a physical problem see if you can make a boot disk and at least get to a DOS prompt. Here is a really good link that might help. On the left side look for repair XP then take a look at: How to access last known good configuration, How to repair boot sector, How to create a boot disk, How to access safe mode.....Good Luck !

| Dear deeox,
At the school District where I spend so many of my hours, we have experienced a problem that looks exactly like this. What we have learned about our equipment is that if we will make sure the ACPI is turned ON in the BIOS, then we don't have this continual rebooting problem. I wasn't privy to the research that yielded this solution, but I have been advised by our HelpDesk staff to use it, and I have applied this solution many, many times myself. Please try it on your machine, and just maybe, it will solve your conundrum. Good Luck.
All th' eBest,

| I had a case just like this just last week. For some reason, the operating system files got corrupted, and that was exactly what it was doing.
Try this:
Boot to your XP CD, and go into Recovery Console. Then CHKDSK /P and repeat CHKDSK /P until it comes clean with no errors. Then see if you can boot normally.
Let us know how it goes, and if this doesn't do it, we'll try something else.
|
| afalbrig!
I Tried your formula, finished the scan and it didnt found N'errors, & still not working.
Rusty Tyson!
I dont know,i cant find the ACPI in my BIOS.. how do i get there???
rjsal!
You said it could be the Memory, i have tried to change the memory and the slot. I also thought like that coz it gives you a blue screan blink and like every one says it has to do with memory. I have tried every chages i can and cant get it right.

| We'll have to look a little closer and find out what the problem is. To do this, you can either mount the HD on another system, or put a parallel install onto it (install XP to a directory like WINNT2, then bring it up to the same service pack).
Then, go into Event Viewer and open up the system log file from the original install -- should be at C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG or C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG -- chances are it's recording the blue screens there. Find out what the stop code and the four parameters are -- for instance, STOP 0x0000007B {0x89753090, 0x00000001, 0x00000000, 0x00000000}
Let us know what you find.
|
| your hardisk has a bad sector. everytime the operating system accesses one of the sector in your hardisk that has a bad sector, blue screen will appear. try another hardisk. slave the hardisk that has a bad sector to the new one and try to surface scan the hardisk the one that has a bad sector.

| I can see that its a blue screen of death. XP BSD is hard to manage. Tried recovery console and still wont do the job. Hardware issues, dont do good either. The best thing here is to backup your impotant documents on your drive then format your drive! Hey man, no choice! You must use your PC right?! Or try this: remove your drive then place it to another PC and run diagnostics and repair on your drive. After which try installing the your drive on your PC (this will help alot). If it wont work, well... Backup and format! | |
| afalbrig 2005-02-10, 12:54 am |
| Did you get the stop code and the four parameters yet? This might not be irrecoverable -- we just have to work at it. | |
