Recommend Source for parts

| I am in the information-gathering stage of building my own computer. It will take at least a year due to other commitments, but I'm in no hurry. I have assembled a partial list of sources, and I'd like your opinion on any of them with whom you've had either a positive or negative experience, plus any you think I ought to consider as well. Do you recommend buying over the internet if I'm comfortable with the purchase process, or is it better to walk into a store and buy off the shelf?
I've visited these:
Tiger Direct
Street Prices
Global Spec
Baber
Adamant
nelson computer hardware
Tech Depot
esc technologies
newegg
A friend suggested kristamicro, but I haven't been able to get to the website. | |

| Try Zip Zoom Fly (formerly Googlegear.com) I have had good luck with them. | |

| I highly recommend www.newegg.com I have been buy parts for this company over two years I always get what I order with no problem. I do not recommend www.tigerdirect.com to expensive and slow on shipping. | |
|
| I always look for the price. If the price + tax + shipping is cheap online, then I get it. Otherwise, local superstore is fine. As long as u know your stuff!! | |

| Some Vendors come to mind:
Newegg.com, of course, been using them for years. They ship quick, very reliable, never had a bad part, and the prices are right.
Last month alone was close to $10000.00.
For Media, i shop at Meritline.com.
Awesome shipping, always get my stuff fast, never bought cheap media there, when it comes to media, i buy the good stuff like Ritec, Verbatim or the like.
For Printer-supplies, check out www.Priceless-inkjet.com.
Been using them since 1998, very nice customer-support,you are on the phone with a real person to help you in seconds.
Their shipping is top-notch, very fast and mostly free.
For Harddrives and Memory, i have a local store that i have been using since 1995.
On the web, you find them at www.upgrade-solution.com.
You will need to know what you want, don't buy cheap hard drives, as it will bite you in the A$$, if you have to return to a customer that has a crashed hard drive after only 6 month.Spend a little more on the Harddrives, only buy the best like Maxtor, Seagate, and so on.
For Software and Licenses, i shop at www.directdeals.com same here, buying from them for years and like the prices.(XP-Pro for about $118 right now)
Bottom line:
If you find a good Vendor, stick with him.
Too many "fly-by-night" operations out there on the web.
It took me about 10 years to collect a good source of vendors, i really learned the hard way...
Good luck!

| I did like what I saw on newegg, and they don't rip you on shipping. That's probably where the cpu and mobo will come from, and the case. That's as far as I've gone on specs so far, and like i said I'm not in a hurry to get it done. |
