Some important Tools for ripping, editing and copying DVD's.
Please respect the Laws before using them and only back up the DVD's you own.

Drive Region Info.

download

DVD Genie.
DVD Genie allows you to modify the region code for popular software-based DVD Players including such players as Software Cinemaster, PowerDVD and WinDVD (among a few). It also allows you to tweak these programs with undocumented features to better fit your system.
download

DVD Decrypter

DVD Shrink
DVD Shrink is software to backup DVD disks. You can use this software in conjunction with DVD burning software of your choice to make a backup copy of any DVD video disk. DVD Master Backup
DVD Master Backup has been designed to backup your DVD movies by transforming the DVD format to the DIVX format and to fit it on a standard 700MB compact disc. All processes are automated, you only need to set a few parameters and click on the "Go" button to create your DIVX movie.

This is a program for editing *.ifo files. With it, you are able to correct the sector addresses in .ifo files, after you stipped out unwanted .VOB files on DVD. Now comes with integrated DVD player to test changes made.

Question:

Say you wanted to make your own DVD. Family albums/Videos. Is there software out there that allows you to create your own DVD Menu? Like where you can do a Scene selection or where you can select play? Thanks.

Yes, Roxio 6 will do all that and more.
You can create custom menues, shortcuts, everything you see in a professional DVD.
Also check out Pinnacle Studio.
Both Programs are about $55-$75.

I am bringing this Thread back to live, because DVDXCOPY has just lost their Battle in the Courts and need to pull the Products from the Shelves...I think the Product sucked, anyways...(I used a very early Version).
Shrink DVD is so far the best, i have seen.
Version 3.16 is out and the Backups look great.

I even created a "Demo-DVD" with 12 of the most awesome Film-scenes ever made, to show off my Home-Theater System.
Using Shrink DVD's "re-master" function, you can actually cut scenes out from any DVD and then put them all together into one complete Disk.

My Demo includes:

Star Wars Episode II – Attack of the Clones (Chapter 28: “Asteroid Chase”)

The Fifth Element - Lelo on the edge - the taxi chase.

Gladiator (Chapter 2: “Hell Unleashed”)

Pearl Harbor (Chapter 22: “First Strike”)

Behind Enemy Lines (Chapter 6: “SAM Attack”)

The opening scenes from ICE AGE

The last battle scenes in Underworld

Black Hawk Down (Chapter 9: “Super Six One Down”)

Terminator 2 Special Edition opening.

The Matrix (Chapter 29: “Lobby Shooting Spree”)

...to name just a few...nice to have one DVD with all those Killer-scenes around to really get those Subs moving.

If you Guys have more Suggestions about some good scenes to include into the Demo, please post.

That sounds really nice. I would have to think about it, something from Bruce Willis die hard series, like blowing up the plane on take off and surviving. The heliocopter attack in Apocolous now. Any flight scene from Top Gun or the alien vs Will Smith chase scene in Independance Day. Low tech, the first ray blast in War of the Worlds 1953 or Gort on the attack in The Day the Earth Stood Still 1951. Gort sci-fi movies first realistic robot and prototype for all that followed.

"Gort, Klaatu barada nikto".

I'm interested in creating a DVD to pass out to family of past gatherings/home videos, but I'm curious if any of the products you've mentioned would allow you to create the "faded" vid clips you see on many DVD "main" menus?

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I'm not sure if the scene selection boxes are full-motion or just pictures, but I'm more interested in a larger motion image, such as on the main menu of the Lord of the Rings dvd's. When you first pop in the dvd, you'll see the text menu options to choose "play movie, scene selection, etc.", but in the background are somewhat-faded moving clips from the movie itself, superimposed against "static" background on the sides of the screen as well, similar to what you've got. Ever seen anything of that nature?
