| Hi every one,
I have a problem recognizing a 80 GB HD. Some one adviced me to update my bios to the lates beta version (1011.005). I downloaded the update from Asus web site, and tried to upgrade the bios, I got the following error message:
[Error---File size in correct]
The 1011.005 file is 256 KB. I don't know what to do?!
At the beging, I had this Bios version:
ASUS P5A-B ACPI, Rev. 1007 Build date 04/16/99
Then I updated the Bios to:
ASUS P5A-B ACPI, Rev. 1010 Build date 02/24/00
But htis dos not fix the problem, I'm still unable to even detect the HD
I found that some one did it before and it worked for him, but I don't know what is my problem?!
See>>http://www2.driverguide.com/uploads...ds18/15215.html
The HD is brand new, and I'm sure that it's working fin.
I know that there is a way around this problem, which is to get an IDE controller.
But if I'd be able to do it through the Bios upgrade I'd appreciated.
Any help!

| There are two different file sizes, one with and without audio. Here skip driverguide.com and go directly to ASUS. That is a pretty old board, socket 7 and you need int 13 extensions to handle a drive that big. You can get all the drivers and manual here also. Good luck

| Also, you might be able to install a "BIOS-Overlay" like Maxblast or such programs.
What Brand is the Drive?

| azimuth40;
I went to Asus web site -the link you provided- the only driver I found there that might be related to my problem is for:
ALi M1541 IDE BusMaster (for P5A, P5A-B, P5A-VM)
I found the same driver that I found in Driverguide.com, with the same file size on the following link:
http://www.asus.com/support/download/selectftp.aspx?l1_id=1&l2_id=5&l3_id=2&m_id=1&f_name=1011-005.zip~zaqwedc
But again, it does not work.
Any idea!
Deja-vue;
My HD is Western Digital, I spoke to the support line two days ago, and I spent about 30 minutes on that call. The bottom line that the "LifeGuard" solution which is similar to Maxblast -I think- is not that reliable, the agent said that they are receiving many calls about data lose and corrupted partitions because of this tool, she didn't recommend it at all!
Any other advice? | |

| Does "didn't work" mean the update program says wrong size?
This is what I found at asus by clicking the beta radio button on the page that I gave you.
105,899 1011b005.zip
105,769 1011bn005.zip
The files have two different crc's inside. Most of these update programs say wrong size if anythings at all is wrong like the ID of the old BIOS not matching the new one. So you still need the right one based on if you have sound or no sound on the motherboard. Both of these BIOS files have file dates of 5/13/2002. That is over two years newer that what you have now and is new enough in time to have known about int 13 extensions. The unpacked sizes are also smaller than the one that you listed for driverguide.com. I just downloaded all three to see the differences.
105,899 1011b005.zip
105,769 1011bn005.zip
127,008 bios2002beta.zip
Choice is yours. I don't know why the link did not take you right there let me paste it again
http://www.asus.com/support/downloa...A-B&Type=Latest
Ah I see the link only takes you to the primary page, javascript changes it. you gotta click on that beta radio button on the top tab to find the two files that I listed. Well good luck, hope it works.

| Thank you azimuth40!
I've just bought myself a new maxtor 80gb hdd and had exactly the same problem.
Have downloaded all the bits and will go talk to my home computer with a big stick and hope this sorts it out!
Yes I know your post is a year old, but I had to let you know that it's still useful!
Thanks again! |
